Seventeen year old, Valentino Scholtz was one of 4 students selected to participate as a crewmember for the Norwegian Tall Ship, the Christian Radich, during the 2008 Tall Ship Races. The Christian Radich won both legs of the race, as well as recognition for the ship with the greatest number of nationalities on board—13 were represented in this year’s race. Valentino was selected by Cape Windjammers based on his work ethic and leadership skills. The organization uses off-shore sail training voyages as a means to develop life skills, leadership skills and environmental awareness among South African youth.
