Last weekend, my husband, Pat, two of my kids, Ryan and Julia, and I traveled to Culver, Indiana, to spend some time with six Christel House kids attending the Culver Summer Leadership Camp. It was a very hot day so we came prepared with lots of ice water, sunscreen and Fanta—one of their favorites!!
The kids shared about their activities over the past several weeks. Magda (Mexico) enjoys swimming and was very excited that she passed her swimming class. Jesus (Mexico) LOVES to sail and has fun diving, too. Kyle and Chad (South Africa) love all the music and band practices—especially jazz. Angel (India) is preparing for her fencing tournament and enjoys her leadership class. And Zakeer (India—pictured here) is spending lots of time water skiing, swimming and sailing.
We went for a walk along Lake Maxinkuckee and spent a lot of time outdoors. My son brought some sports equipment and, for two hours, all the boys threw a football, played lacrosse and just enjoyed being kids. The girls and I talked about all of their experiences at Culver. The kids were excited about the upcoming Homecoming events, but they all denied having dates!
As the afternoon drew to a close, we took some final pictures and said our goodbyes. Driving home, my whole family reflected on our amazing day with the students. Even though they come from different countries and speak different languages, they all enjoy many of the same things…making friends, playing sports, and, of course, drinking Fanta!
