Quench Their Thirst: Christel House Student Fundraiser for Kiwanja, Tanzania
Over one billion people around the world don’t have access to fresh drinking water, according to Water for our World. Kiwanja, Tanzania, in eastern Africa, is one of many villages were residents must walk miles to the nearest water source, which is polluted with mercury. Tanzania is a war-torn country with few resources to improve the situation on its own.
The 9th grade class of Christel House Watanabe High School thinks something needs to be done about this. On November 4, 2010, at 6:30 pm, they are hosting a dinner in the Christel House Watanabe High School Gymnasium . They hope to raise $1900 for Water for Kiwanja, an organization building a well in the village. Tickets are $20 at the door, although the students ask you to RSVP to general@chacademy.org.
In addition to a hearty meal provided by Buca di Beppo, attendees will learn about the dire situation Kiwanja. Christel House students will also provide musical entertainment. This project has been a great learning experience for the students, as they have tackled a problem many adults choose to ignore.
We hope to see you on November 4th! For more information, check out the event Quench Their Thirst on Facebook.

It's special to be a part of something BIG. On Monday over 1800 golfers in 6 countries on 5 continents came together marking the 8th annual RCI Christel House Open!
A day of fun (and some sun!) with friends literally meant the world to the children of Christel House. Starting in the UK and ending in India, it was over 24 hours of constant golfing to help provide education, health care and nutrition for children in extreme poverty.
We thank the players, volunteers, staff, sponsors and all those involved in making it a fantastic success!
Together, we're making a world of difference.
For more on the event and you can get involved next year, visit our Christel House Open website! For real-time updates from Monday's event, and regular updates going forward, connect with us on Facebook and Twitter!
If you were out and about on May 2, 2010 you may have noticed a few extra lemonade stands at the neighborhood park or street curb thanks to Lemonade Day. It's a day designed to 'prepare youth for life' with experiential education projects focused on entrepreneurship. Indianapolis Lemonade Day was spearheaded by Scott Jones a local, serial entrepreneur.
One participant - Juliette, age 7 - built her stand, made lemonade and baked cookies and brownies to sell alongside. While the weather wasn't great, it didn't dampen her plans. She moved inside the nearest grocery and kept at it. She tried not to eat her profits and even dabbled in market testing - learning that pink lemonade was more popular than yellow "even among boys".
While Juliette could have kept everything she earned, she chose to donate her proceeds to Christel House and toured Christel House Academy to see the difference she made! We're sure Juliette has a great future ahead of her and with her help a Christel House student now has a brighter future of their own.
A big thanks to Juliette for her donation, her big heart and great example. Every gift counts and together, with the help of those like Juliette, we're making a world of difference!
ShelterBoxes have helped many people in Haiti during this difficult time. We're proud of our students for their efforts to share, care and make a difference!
