CHA scores increase, again!

For the eighth year in a row, Christel House Academy has continued to improve its overall passing rate on the Indiana Statewide Testing for Education Progress-Plus (
ISTEP+).
On the test, administered this spring, the school’s average combined passing rate is 79.895%, up a strong five percentage points over its 2009 scores. Scores for students at CHA improved 7.46 percentage points in English/Language Arts and 3.79 percentage points in Mathematics from 2009 to 2010.
We are thrilled with the results as it continues to prove that with the right teaching methodologies, the right strategies and the right school environment, at-risk children will succeed and excel. We'll continue this progress with the expansion of
Watanabe High School. It also falls right in line with our
impressive academic efforts worldwide.
A big congrats to the students, parents, teachers, staff and all who support Christel House!

A Sign of the Times

Since 2002, Christel House Academy, located on Indianapolis’s near-south side, has exemplified progress in urban education. Since opening, the school has consistently out performed other schools in the Indianapolis area and beyond.
With an annual 96.7 student retention, a 96.9 student attendance, and numerous awards, Christel House Academy has been preparing students for a successful future - but that wasn't always the case.
In 2002, based on the results of ISTEP tests administered three weeks after school opened, Christel House Academy ranked as the worst-performing school in Indiana, clearly demonstrating how far behind our students were. Our students' scores have increased every year since.
Last Fall, the Academy's ISTEP scores jumped to 74.25% compared to the Indiana state average of 71.4% and the Indianapolis Public School average of 49.9%. The next round of results will be released later this summer.
Here in Indianapolis less than 31% of high school students in the public school system actually graduate. We're looking forward to changing that as Christel House - Watanabe High School opens in August 2010.
While the building is new, the philosophy remains the same. Individual attention and dedication to students makes the difference, and we look forward to future progress.

And we thought 97% was good...
UPDATE:
Back in March we received
Christel House South Africa's results for the Matric Exams - South Africa's government administered exam that qualifies students for university studies. We were quite pleased with the result - a 97% passing rate, compared to 60.7% nationally - proving once again that Christel House works.

One student struggled with a particular portion of the test. Her teachers share that instead of feeling defeated and frustrated, she took it upon herself to refocus her efforts, continue studying and recently retook the exam.
We're proud to announce that Christel House South Africa now has a 100% passing rate for the 2010 Matric exams! Congratulations to all our graduates - we're excited to see where life takes you!
