History Lessons at the Columbia Club in Indianapolis

Indianapolis is home to many places that capture moments of American history. Christel House Academy 4th grade students stepped back in time during their visit to the Columbia Club, founded in 1889. The students had been learning about President Benjamin Harrison, an Indianapolis resident, and were treated to Columbia Club member Cara Daffron's protrayal of Mrs. Caroline Harrison. "Mrs. Harrison" read the students an excerpt from one of her husband's speeches and answered the many questions from the young learners.

Students ate lunch in the Capehart Room, dining on the ever-popular peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. "I feel like royalty!" exclaimed one fourth grader. Clubhouse staff escorted the students around the building, pointing out many historical details. Students also saw T.C. Steele paintings and authentic White House China.

The Columbia Club thoroughly enjoyed hosting these inquisitive young minds, and hope to see them return as community leaders when they are older.
